The Las Vegas Raiders are heading into the 2025 NFL Draft with a clear message: they are keeping their options open, especially when it comes to the quarterback position. This was emphasized in a recent statement by General Manager John Spytek, shedding light on their draft strategy.
Las Vegas Raiders Clarify QB Draft Priorities: “Open-Minded” Approach

“Remain open-minded,” Spytek stated when asked about the possibility of drafting a quarterback. “Anybody that can help us at that position in particular is going to be up for consideration. You guys have all done your investigative journalism well enough to know that we brought some quarterbacks in, and that wasn’t by accident by any means. And we remain open to the most important position in sports to get right, and we’re super excited to have Geno here, and we continue to expect him to be here for a while, but you can’t have too many of those guys.”
Essentially, the Raiders appear to be balancing their present and future at the quarterback position. They have a player they believe in, but they are also proactively exploring opportunities to secure a potential long-term successor or a strong backup. Of course, this is a fundamental understanding in the NFL — having a solid quarterback situation is paramount for sustained success.
The Raiders have a limited runway with both their new quarterback, Geno Smith (34), and head coach, Pete Carroll (73).
The upcoming draft will be crucial in revealing how the Raiders intend to address their future beyond these two pivotal figures. Whether they select a quarterback early, later, or not at all, their actions will provide a clearer picture of their vision for the position moving forward.
