Las Vegas Raiders New Addition Sees Scheme Tailor Made For His Skill

Raheem Mostert’s 2024 season with the Miami Dolphins was statistically underwhelming, with 85 carries for 278 yards. However, his mere presence on the field was noteworthy, as he was the oldest running back in the NFL to surpass 200 rushing yards. Now, having joined the Las Vegas Raiders and approaching his 33rd birthday, Mostert is determined to prove that age is just a number.

“Last year’s performance wasn’t up to my standard,” Mostert stated. “I’m already feeling really good coming off this offseason, and I’m excited to showcase my work ethic.” He emphasizes his commitment to maintaining his physical condition and believes he can secure a significant role in the Raiders’ offense. “I’m here to just get to work. My role is whatever I’m able to create,” Mostert said.

This Raiders’ offense will be directed by Chip Kelly, marking their third collaboration. Mostert previously played under Kelly with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2015 and the San Francisco 49ers in 2016. However, during those stints, Mostert primarily focused on kick returns and saw limited offensive action.

Now, he’s vying for the starting running back position and anticipates Kelly’s system will align with the schemes he thrived in under Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco and Mike McDaniel in Miami.

“It’s definitely tailored to the type of run scheme that I’m used to, the kind of game I can form my game into,” Mostert explained. “Chip brought it up too, it’s all similar, the verbiage is going to be different but everything is relatively the same.”

The Raiders are hopeful that Mostert can replicate his 2023 form, when he led the NFL with 21 touchdowns. Achieving that level of production at 33 will be a considerable challenge, but Mostert’s confidence suggests he’s ready to defy expectations.
