Las Vegas Raiders Report Reveals Massive Trade Price For Critical Player

The Seattle Seahawks’ initial trade ambitions for Geno Smith significantly exceeded the eventual outcome. Before settling for a third-round pick, a stark contrast to the eight assets received in the Russell Wilson trade, the Seahawks engaged in discussions with the Las Vegas Raiders, aiming for a much more substantial return. According to Albert Breer of SI, Seattle included Maxx Crosby in these trade talks, proposing a package that would have sent Smith and D.K. Metcalf to the Raiders. The Raiders promptly dismissed the idea of trading Crosby, reinforcing his status as a cornerstone of their defense, a sentiment further solidified by his record-setting contract extension.

Crosby’s importance to the Raiders was underscored by their swift contract negotiations. As Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk noted, the three-year, $106.5 million extension, which set a new non-quarterback contract record, was finalized in a matter of hours. The deal includes $62.5 million guaranteed at signing, encompassing his 2025 and 2026 base salaries. His 2027 base salary is guaranteed for injury and becomes fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2026 league year, effectively ensuring his presence on the team.

It’s intriguing to speculate whether the Seahawks’ interest in Crosby influenced his contract extension with the Raiders. Regardless, Seattle’s attempt to acquire the dominant pass rusher in a package that would have reunited Pete Carroll with Metcalf is noteworthy. The Raiders still have the opportunity to acquire Metcalf and/or Tyler Lockett, whose free agency coincided with Metcalf’s trade request. The Seahawks aim to resolve the Metcalf situation before the draft.

Metcalf’s reported preference for a warm-weather city and a team with quarterback stability suggests a potential dissatisfaction with the Seahawks’ situation. Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com suggests the Smith trade and Darnold rumors could impact Metcalf’s perspective. Given that Darnold has not matched Smith’s overall performance, and especially that Smith outplayed Darnold in 2024, this is understandable.
