Las Vegas Raiders Secure High IQ QB With Their 3rd Pick in the 6th Round

The Las Vegas Raiders spent their first two picks addressing offensive needs, but in the third round, they went after possibly the team’s biggest need — cornerback.

With the 68th pick, the Raiders selected Darien Porter, the cornerback out of Iowa State. The team opted for Porter over cornerbacks Shavon Revel Jr., out of East Carolina, and Azareye’h Thomas from Florida State. With the 98th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, they selected offensive guard Caleb Rogers from Texas Tech. With back-to-back picks in the third, the Raiders doubled down on offensive linemen with Charles Grant.

With the sixth pick in the 4th round, they opted for Dont’e Thornton Jr., wide receiver, Tennessee, and Tonka Hemingway later in that round. With pick 180 in the 2025 NFL Draft, Ole Miss defensive tackle JJ Pegues. With the 213th pick in the 2025 NFL draft, the Raiders selected Montana State quarterback — wide receiver Tommy Mellott.

Two picks later, with the 215th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Raiders picked North Dakota State quarterback Cam Miller.

Dane Brugler of The Athletic ranks Cam Miller as the 12th-best quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft class, writing, “Miller won’t wow you right away because the physical traits are average. The more you watch, though, the more you come to appreciate his decision-making and feel for the position. He can be an asset in an NFL quarterback room as a reserve.”

Cam Miller established himself as a highly successful and experienced quarterback during his four-year starting career at North Dakota State. Playing within former offensive coordinator Jake Landry’s run-heavy scheme, which averaged just 21.9 pass attempts per game, Miller led the Bison to two FCS national championships as a starter (2022 and 2024). His tenure at North Dakota State was marked by record-breaking achievements, including school records for career passing yards (9,720), completions (759), and total offense (11,997).

Miller demonstrates intelligent game management, consistently making sound decisions by taking what the defense offers and prioritizing timing and placement over raw arm strength. His mental approach to the game and his on-field production showed improvement each season, a testament to his development, influenced in part by being the son of a football coach. Despite his accomplishments, Miller may face skepticism due to the level of competition he encountered in the FCS.
