Las Vegas Raiders Secure Nimble Big Man With 3rd Third Round Pick

The Las Vegas Raiders spent their first two picks addressing offensive needs, but in the third round, they went after possibly the team’s biggest need — cornerback.

With the 68th pick, the Raiders selected Darien Porter, the cornerback out of Iowa State. The team opted for Porter over cornerbacks Shavon Revel Jr., out of East Carolina, and Azareye’h Thomas from Florida State.

With the 98th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, they selected offensive guard Caleb Rogers from Texas Tech. With back-to-back picks, the Raiders doubled down on offensive linemen with Charles Grant.

The Athletic’s Dane Brugler ranks Grant as the 8th-best tackle and the 89th-best prospect in the 2025 NFL Draft class, writing, “Grant is a nimble big man with outstanding range, length, and movement twitch, but he needs to develop better patience and muscle mass to match up with NFL competition. He has the traits of a future NFL starter and projects best in a zone-heavy offense, similar in ways to Spencer Burford.”

Grant established himself as a dominant left tackle during his four-year career at William & Mary. Playing in former offensive coordinator Mario Acitelli’s creative, zone-based run scheme, Grant was a key contributor to the Tribe’s rushing success; the team ranked fourth in the FCS with 232.8 rushing yards per game in 2024.

Grant’s development is notable: after arriving as a 240-pounder with limited football experience, he matured into a formidable blindside protector. His exceptional performance earned him recognition as the only offensive lineman named a finalist for the 2024 Walter Payton Award, which honors the top offensive player in the FCS.

Grant possesses several promising attributes, including light feet, long arms, and a consistent competitive drive that extends through the whistle. While his agility is readily apparent, experienced edge rushers may exploit less refined aspects of his technique, particularly his upright pad level and occasionally hurried footwork.
