Raiders Take Big Swing With Signing Of Former Top 10 Pick

While all eyes are on the NFL Owners Meetings down in Florida, the Las Vegas Raiders quietly made a sneaky good signing in free agency.

During the early signing period, the Raiders signed former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Elandon Roberts, but they still needed to add more talent to the LB room. Today, they took a swing on a former first-rounder.

The team announced on their social media that they have signed former 5th-overall pick Devin White.

Up to this point, White’s career has been somewhat of a mystery. After being drafted by the Tampa Buccaneers, he stormed onto the scene and quickly became one of the top linebackers in the league. He recorded 91 tackles in his rookie season and then 3 straight 120+ tackle seasons after that.

In just his second season, he finished with 140 tackles and 9 sacks, demonstrating he was a true modern-day LB and could do a little of everything.

Things got a bit strange, however, in 2023. After failing to negotiate a contract extension, his playing time was severely reduced in the back half of the season, and he eventually requested a trade.

In the offseason, he signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. However, he did not play a single snap for the Eagles and was released in October.

He then signed with the Houston Texans, where he played sparingly, finishing out the rest of the 2024 season.

This is a low-risk, high-reward signing for the Raiders. Based on talent and draft level, White should slot in as the immediate starter next to Roberts. He is still just 27 years old, and head coach Pete Carroll has had a history, dating back to his time with the USC Trojans, of getting elite linebacker play.
