Los Angeles Kings Add Reinforcements Ahead Of Big Road Clash Vs. Avalanche

Ahead of their Thursday game against the Avalanche, the Los Angeles Kings are set to recall forward Jeff Malott from their AHL affiliate, according to John Hoven of Mayor’s Manor.

With $1.757 million in available cap space, as reported by PuckPedia, LA can accommodate Malott’s $775,000 cap hit without needing further roster adjustments.

This marks Malott’s first call-up to the Kings’ NHL roster this season, following his signing to a two-year, partial two-way contract last summer. Should he play, it will be his second NHL appearance after his debut with the Jets during the 2021-22 campaign.

Malott’s recall comes as a direct response to recent injuries within the Kings’ forward ranks. Tanner Jeannot sustained an upper-body injury in the previous game against the Rangers, and Alex Turcotte was a late scratch due to an undisclosed injury.

With Akil Thomas as the only available extra forward, Malott provides crucial depth and an additional option should the team face further injury setbacks.

While Malott’s NHL experience is limited, he brings significant physical presence to the team, standing at 6’4” and weighing 201 lbs. His performance in the AHL has been increasingly impressive. As an alternate captain for the Ontario Reign, he has recorded 23 goals and 28 assists for a total of 51 points in 61 games, ranking third in team scoring.

Furthermore, his hard-nosed style is evident in his league-leading 80 penalty minutes and a +17 rating, placing him fourth on the Reign.

Although his stint with the Los Angeles Kings is expected to be temporary, lasting only as long as their injury concerns persist, Malott presents a capable replacement for fourth-line minutes when needed.
