The Los Angeles Kings have bolstered their forward lineup ahead of tonight’s game against the St. Louis Blues by recalling Samuel Helenius from their AHL affiliate, the Ontario Reign.
This roster move marks Helenius’s fifth recall this season, a testament to his value to the team. Despite the frequent movement between Los Angeles and Ontario, Helenius has officially logged 27 NHL games, marking his rookie season.
Los Angeles Kings Recall Samuel Helenius From Ontario Reign

During his NHL appearances, Helenius has consistently provided a strong defensive presence. The imposing 6’6″ forward has averaged approximately three hits per game and maintained a solid 93.8% on-ice save percentage at even strength. This demonstrates quality physicality and a defensive mindset, particularly impressive given his average ice time of less than nine minutes per game.
However, it’s acknowledged that significant improvement in his offensive output is unlikely. Helenius has recorded one goal and three assists for Los Angeles, and his AHL numbers are similarly modest. His most productive offensive season, outside of his time in the Finnish Liiga, was last year with the Reign, where he scored eight goals and 11 assists in 69 games.
Nevertheless, the Kings are expected to value the physicality Helenius brings to their bottom lines, establishing him as a reliable bottom-six player for the foreseeable future.
