The UCLA Bruins headed to Piscataway, New Jersey with a 1-5 record to take on the Rutgers Scarlett nights. On a five-game losing streak, UCLA is playing as much for their pride as much as they are for the double U.

Ethan Garbers understood the assignment.

On the Bruins’s third offensive possession, they had driven just inside Rutgers territory when Eric Bieniemy called the fifth passing play of the 10-play drive. But Garbers quickly pulled the ball down and scrambled to his left. About four yards down the field, Rutgers defender, Desmond Igbinosun was waiting to make an open-field tackle. Garbers threw on the breaks, making the player miss, and took the ball for a touchdown.

His 49 rush is the longest rush of UCLA’s season.

Outside of that carry, the Bruins rushing attack has struggled. They had rushed for 23 yards on 12 carries at halftime.
