There has been plenty of talk about UCLA Football offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and the offense that he is installing this year. During Big Ten Media Day, QB Ethan Garbers, and WR J. Michael Sturdivant spoke about the offense, which we detailed extensively here.
Now, UCLA Bruins star wide receiver Logan Loya is the latest to chime on the new-look offense for 2024.
“A buffet. Everybody eats.”
UCLA Football WR Logan Loya Compares Eric Bieniemy’s Offense To A Buffet, “Everybody Eats”
Loya led all receivers last season in both receptions (59), yards (655), and touchdowns (5), but throughout his career at UCLA, it is easy to see that he is a team-first guy.
This offense, according to him, is going to require everyone to be team-first as it is not going to single out or focus on specific players. The offense will, however, lean a bit more pass-heavy, so the wide receiver room should be excited about that.
Per our article from last week, “Bieniemy has never had a 1,000-yard rusher, nor a running back have a 200-carry season, and his quarterback with the Commanders last season, Sam Howell, led the NFL in pass attempts.”
If you continue looking at the Commanders’ receiving stats from 2023, the receiving room was pretty well balanced.
- Terry McLaurin: 79 receptions, 1002 yards
- Curtis Samuel: 62 receptions, 613 yards
- Jahan Dotson: 49 receptions, 518 yards
- Logan Thomas: 55 receptions, 496 yards
The receiving corps of Loya, Sturdivant, and Rico Flores is a trio that is not being talked about enough. In this pass-heavy offense that values versatility and off-balance concepts, they have a real opportunity to turn some heads in the Big Ten and exceed expectations for UCLA Football in Year 1.
