Fantasy Football 2021: He’s Hot, He’s Not, Week 10 Start and Sit

So we have survived the WTF happenings in Week 9. It is time to shake it off and get on with Week 10.

Quarterback HOT = Carson Wentz

There may be some reluctance playing Wentz against a defense that just held Josh Allen out of the endzone while intercepting him twice. I get it, and the Jacksonville Jaguars could be making a resurgence…or not, and I am betting on not.

Wentz has averaged 244.2 passing yards a game. He has 17 touchdowns and three interceptions, and a 100.1 QBR. Over the last three weeks, Wentz has been QB2.

The Jaguars have given up 11 touchdowns and four interceptions to the quarterback position.

Quarterback NOT HOT = Baker Mayfield

The New England Patriots are the third-best defense against the quarterback in fantasy terms. They have intercepted quarterbacks 13 times while giving up 12 touchdowns, and they also have only allowed an average of 14.4 fantasy points per game.

Cleveland averages 30.3 rushing attempts a game (5th) while only attempting an average of 29 passes a game (30th).

Even with Nick Chubb and Demetric Felton out, count on Cleveland sticking to the basics.

Wide Receiver HOT = Tyler Johnson

This is a Chris Godwin status update. If Godwin is out, Johnson just might be your sneaky hottie for the week. Johnson had run 82 routes in six games. Then Antonio Brown went down, and Johnson ran 54 routes with seven receptions and 81 yards.

The WFT has allowed the second-most fantasy points to the wide receiver position, and they have also allowed the second-most fantasy points to the slot position. So if Godwin is in, he is HOT, but if not, pivot to Johnson, especially in the DFS tournament.

Wide Receiver NOT HOT = Courtland Sutton

This is all about the matchup. The Philadelphia Eagles have allowed the fourth-fewest fantasy points to the wide receiver position, including the third-fewest to Darius Slay‘s primary side, the right perimeter receivers. There is the expectation that Slay will shadow Sutton, who spends 87% of his routes on the perimeter.

Running Back HOT = Najee Harris

Harris ranks second in receptions and targets. The Detroit Lions are giving up the second-most fantasy points to the running back position (26.2), including six receiving touchdowns to the position (most in NFL).

Running Back NOT HOT = Antonio Gibson

You know the narrative, do not play your running backs against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Buccaneers are second in the NFL, allowing an average of 78 rushing yards per game, and they have also only surrendered two rushing touchdowns to the running back position.

But the Buccaneers have also given up four passing touchdowns to the running back position. So maybe the narrative does not apply to pass-catching running backs. Unfortunately, in the WFT backfield, that is JD McKissic and not Gibson. Gibson has 21 targets on the season, while McKissic has 42.

Tight End Hot = Noah Fant

While the Eagles are decent against wide receivers, they aren’t very good against the tight ends. They have allowed eight touchdowns to the position while yielding an average of 12.2 fantasy points to tight ends.

Last week the Eagles surrendered a touchdown to the Chargers’ tight end, Donald Parham…right.

Tight End NOT HOT = Jared Cook

Speaking of the Chargers’ tight ends, it might be time to pump the brakes on Cook. Last week, Cook was on the field for 42% of the offensive snaps, with Parham for 41%.

Parham also is more efficient in the red zone, according to fantasypros.com (66.7% to 60%).

And then there is the fact that the Vikings have not given up a touchdown to the tight end position.

Any start and sit questions just hit me up on Twitter @gladysLtyler. Sorry for the delay in getting this out. My dogs decided to be dicks this week. (Gotta love them, though)!
