Fantasy Football 2021: Week 9 He’s Hot…He’s Not

Week 9 in fantasy football land, and there are still some surprises on the hot and not stratosphere. Did you predict the hotness of Mike White in Week 8? Or how about the absolute chill from Kenneth Gainwell?

Well, let’s see who will come into Week 9 smoking hot for our fantasy teams.

QUARTERBACK HOT = TAYSOM HILL vs. ATLANTA FALCONS

This, of course, has many a caveat attached to it, will he play, will he start, what will Sean Payton do with him should he get on the field?

But if past accomplishments are any indicator of current accomplishments, Hill should be fantasy hot. Now it won’t be pretty, but you don’t really have to be pretty to be hot.

In his last four starts with the Saints, Hill has been QB3, QB11, QB7, and QB9. His rushing upside and penchant for taking the ball in the end zone bode well.

If everything remains the same.

QUARTERBACK NOT HOT = JUSTIN FIELDS vs. PITTSBURGH STEELERS

This is math. The Steelers average the fourth-most sacks a game. Fields has been pressured on 26% of his drop-backs and sacked a league-high 26 times.

He is hovering around a 59.5% completion percentage while tossing in seven interceptions, eight fumbles, and three touchdowns.

Also, this game has the week low 39 over/under, with the Steelers a 6.5-favorite. That does not leave many points on the board for Fields.

Bettingpros.com Best Prop Bets for this game include Chicago Bears UNDER 16.5 points (-110).

WIDE RECEIVER HOT = COPPER KUPP vs. TENNESSEE TITANS

This is probably pretty obvious, as the Rams have the fifth-best scoring offense in the league. But what is so much better is that Kupp will most likely be covered by Elijah Molden.

Tennessee has allowed the most fantasy points to the slot, and Kupp plays 66% of his routes out of the slot.

WIDE RECEIVER NOT HOT = ALLEN ROBINSON vs. PITTSBURGH STEELERS

While this isn’t meant to pile on the Chicago Bears, it happens. This game currently has the lowest under/over for the week at 39 on MyBookie, with the Steelers a 6.5-point favorite.

Fields does not seem to have eyes for Robinson that he does for Darnell Mooney, and the Steelers are allowing the ninth-lowest completion rate of 15 or more yards downfield (42%) per Pro Football Focus.

It just so happens that 37% of Robinson’s targets from Fields have been at least 15 yards or more.

HOT RUNNING BACK = BOSTON SCOTT/JORDAN HOWARD vs. LOS ANGELES CHARGERS

This feels wrong somehow, but the truth is that the Chargers are allowing the fifth-most fantasy points to the running back position. Last week these two running backs had similar stats. It is hard to know what Philadelphia will do, but either one should bring some heat to your fantasy roster.

NOT HOT RUNNING BACK = JAVONTE WILLIAMS vs. DALLAS COWBOYS

This running-back-by-committee is getting pretty frustrating. Last week, Williams was out-snapped and outproduced by Melvin Gordon, so we can only believe that the Broncos will ride the hot hand.

It may not matter much as the Cowboys allow the eighth-fewest fantasy points to the running back position.

HOT TIGHT END = TYLER CONKLIN vs. BALTIMORE RAVENS

The Ravens are giving up the most fantasy points to the tight end position (12.3) and have allowed six touchdowns to the position as well.

NOT HOT TIGHT END = PAT FREIERMUTH vs. CHICAGO BEARS

Freiermuth is seeing targets and making the most of his time without Eric Ebron, but Monday Night Football will not be so kind. The Bears have only allowed one touchdown to the tight end position, and tight ends are averaging 3.3 fantasy points against them.
