Beavers fell short once again to the Stanford Cardinal. They put themselves in a deep hole allowing 34 points in the first half. The defense was non-existent allowing Stanford to move up and down the field, however they wanted. Defensively they couldn’t get Stanford quarterback K.J. Costello out of rhythm.

Costello threw for 4 touchdowns against the Beavers. On a positive note, the team did collect their third interception of the season this week. The defense all season has struggled with pass coverage and getting interceptions.

Jermar Jefferson remains a positive for the Beavers offense on the other side of the ball. This week he rushed for 109 yards with the team being down the whole game. Offensively it looked like they couldn’t find a rhythm or flow for the game. Trevon Bradford had a very nice outing hauling in 5 receptions, for 120 yards, and 1 touchdown. Next week against the Washington Huskies both the defense and offense will have to be on point. The Huskies offense will be looking to go up and down the field on Oregon State.

Isaiah Hodgins – Wide Receiver

Week 1 Grade: D+; Week 2 Grade: C; Week 3 Grade: A+; Week 4 Grade: D; Week 5 Grade: D; Week 6 Grade: DNP; Week 7 Grade: BYE; Week 8 Grade: F; Week 9 Grade: A+; Week 10 Grade: A; Week 11 Grade: D

Week 11 Stats: 3 receptions 37 yards

Projected Round: 3rd Round

There wasn’t a lot of plays called for Hodgins this weekend. The Cardinal did a good job at taking him out of the game. On many plays, Hodgins had two people on him. He proves every week that he is able to make tough catches with a defender on him. There needs to be more separation on Hodgins route running. If he can get more separation in and out of his routes it will make his catches seem effortless.

This upcoming week against the Huskies will be a tough matchup.  Only 3 players this whole season have gained 100 yards receiving against the Huskies. Caleb Wilson (UCLA), Dillon Mitchell (Oregon), and Kaden Smith (Stanford) are the only three who have put up 100 yards games this season with Hodgins hoping to join that list. This secondary will be one of the toughest that he has played all season.

Jermar Jefferson – Running Back

Week 1 Grade: N/A; Week 2 Grade: N/A; Week 3 Grade: N/A; Week 4 Grade: N/A; Week 5 Grade: A+; Week 6 Grade: A; Week 7 Grade: BYE; Week 8 Grade: B; Week 9 Grade: A; Week 10 Grade: B-; Week 11 Grade: B

Week 10 Stats: 19 carries, 109 rushing yards

Projected Round: 2nd to 3rd Round

Jefferson is still pounding out hard earned yards for the Beavers. Defenses keying in on Jefferson every week has been a challenge that he seems willing to accept. He has had four games over 100 yards rushing this season along with a couple of 200-yard games. This week he had zero receptions after last week collecting five catches. The Beavers need to get him the ball no matter what, and it should be in the variety of at least twenty touches a game. He has proven that he is a talented running back.

Jefferson will be going against Huskies linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven who has 134 total tackles for the season. Burr-Kirven also has 4 forced fumbles on the year meaning Jefferson is going to have to protect the football. He hasn’t had a problem holding onto the ball all season so he shouldn’t this game.

Jonathan Willis – Linebacker

Week 1 Grade: C+; Week 2 Grade: B; Week 3 Grade: D; Week 4 Grade: D; Week 5 Grade: D; Week 6 Grade: F; Week 7: BYE; Week 8 Grade: D; Week 9 Grade: F; Week 10 Grade: F; Week 11 Grade: F

Week 11 Stats: 1 tackle

Projected Round: Undrafted

Willis role diminished towards the end of the season. The Beavers have relied heavily on linebacker rotation these past few weeks. This has taken reps from Willis allowing him little opportunity to play. He has had the same struggles all season with shedding blocks and making open field tackles against opposing ball carriers.

Myles Gaskin for the Huskies will give the Beavers defenders a problem this week. Willis and other linebackers will have to keep Gaskin contained. If the defense is going to give the team a chance to win they’re going to have to force the Huskies to run in between the tackles not allowing them to get the outside run game going.

Blake Brandel – Offensive Tackle

Week 1 Grade: F; Week 2 Grade: C; Week 3 Grade: C; Week 4 Grade: C; Week 5 Grade: B+; Week 6 Grade: C; Week 7 Grade: BYE; Week 8 Grade: B; Week 9 Grade: B; Week 10 Grade: B; Week 11 Grade: B

Week 11 Stats: N/A

Projected Round: 4th round to 5th round

Setting the tone on the offensive line starts with Brandel. He has improved drastically from the beginning of the season. When you watch Brandel play you see good explosiveness off the ball. The beginning of the season he was more passive in blocking allowing the defender to come to him rather than him attacking the defender. Most lineman, when they pass block, their first step is back, every once in awhile Brandel will shoot out and attack the opposing defender. It seems Brandel is more comfortable playing more aggressive than allowing the team to attack him first.

This week he will go against an average Huskies defensive line. He should be able to keep their defensive line in front of him and protect his quarterback. The Beavers will need his help to open up gaps for Jefferson to control the clock, keeping the Huskies off the field.

Jalen Moore – Safety

Week 1 Grade: N/A; Week 2 Grade: C; Week 3 Grade: B-; Week 4 Grade: A+; Week 5 Grade: A+; Week 6 Grade: A; Week 7: BYE; Week 8 Grade: A+; Week 9 Grade: A; Week 10 Grade: B-; Week 11 Grade: B

Week 11 Stats: 6 total tackles

Projected Round: 4th round

Moore is the most complete player that the Beavers have on defense. The defense isn’t spectacular at all but he is doing all he can do to make sure that his effort is noticed. Watching the team play, you can’t help but notice him everywhere on the field. He did an amazing job stopping Cardinal running back, Bryce Love, one on one multiple times in the second level of the defense. This has been a common theme all season with Moore being the last line of defense and saving his unit. He can improve on his one on one tackling but this week against one of the best college football running backs there is to offer, he did a good job. If there is an area need for improvement it would be in coverage, defending the pass. This week against the Huskies high powered offense he will have to once again be the anchor of that defense. Jake Browning will be looking to light up this secondary. Moore will have to make some plays in coverage against Browning if the Beavers want a chance.
