Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny has been underutilized in his rookie season. The 22-year-old out of San Diego State was taken with the 27th overall pick of the 2018 draft. He was an explosive running back in college but has gained significant weight in 2018 to help with the impact of playing in the NFL. This has, in turn, slowed him down.

Rashaad Penny Shines Brightest

Penny was having an OK season, until the Week 10 clash with the Los Angeles Rams when everyone took notice.

Facing one of the best defenses in the NFL didn’t deter Penny from the task at hand. He ran for over 100 yards for the first time in his career and capped it off with his very first touchdown in Seahawks colors.

Despite the excellent performance against one of the Super Bowl favorites, Penny is still sitting third in the Seahawks depth chart.

Mike Davis leads the way with 252 snaps or 37.89 percent with Chris Carson the number two with 239 and 35.94 percent. Penny has just over half of the other two with 141 and 21.20 percent.

He’s Capable of Big Things

Finding room on your team for three young running backs is no easy task. All three of them have promise, but Penny is averaging more yards per carry than the other two. He has amassed 4.84 yards per run, compared to 4.53 and 4.54.

With talent like this, the run game looks strong going forward. Whether Penny stays a third-string option remains to be seen.
