Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain and the Shaq-tastic Shaquille O’Neal. Those are a few household names for the greatest rebounders in basketball history. It may be time to expand the list though. The Dallas Cowboys seem to be rebounding once again. The season the Cowboys have produced to become 6-6 perfectly shows that at times they play as the best team but they also have capacity of the worst team in the NFL. It appears that after a brief rough stretch, the Dallas Cowboys are rebounding.[heading]
The Upside
[/heading]So what has been the key to the Cowboys rebounding? Despite the players had a meeting led by Jason Witten two weeks ago but they still lost the following game. This past week they had a great victory largely thanks to the run game. Dak Prescott threw for only 102 yards but he had two touchdowns to the aforementioned Witten and a record-setting touchdown to Dez Bryant. Dez now has 72 career touchdown catches which puts him ahead of the Hall of Fame receiver Bob Hayes. The real highlight of the game was how the Dallas Cowboys offensive line worked as a unit.
They dominated the defense of the Washington Redskins. As was the case for most of last year, the o-line proved to be the most valuable part of the team. The most common critique of Ezekiel Elliott has been that he has always had the best offensive line in football. The line showed why this criticism may ring true. They have proven to be one of the best lines ever. Now with the return of Sean Lee for the bout against the New York Giants, the future is a little brighter for the Cowboys.[heading]
The Downside
[/heading]Despite the Cowboys rebounding, there are still a few concerns. Dak Prescott bruised his throwing hand in the win over the Redskins but did practice Wednesday and was able to perform without any hiccups. There were four players that did not participate in practice though. David Irving is going through concussion protocol to try and play Sunday against the Giants. Orlando Scandrick did not practice due to a back injury he suffered early on in the Redskins game. Tyron Smith is dealing with a back and groin injury lingering still. Lastly, La’el Collins is out with a back injury. That is worrisome for the Cowboys because two of those players are great offensive linemen who are crucial to the production of the run game. Only time will tell if they continue the success though. For the moment though, it does look like the Cowboys are rebounding well.
