Week 3 Recap Zone
Alright, folks, we’re back with another edition of The Recap Zone. The article was a little delayed this week, but nonetheless, we’re back to see if my predictions have made an improvement since last week. So far, my numbers aren’t doing great, though that is somewhat expected as football has boom and bust players every week. Without further ado, let’s jump in and see where I stand after Week 3.
Quarterbacks
I had some wishful thinking when I picked two of the three quarterbacks for Week 3. I had Cam Newton, Daniel Jones, and Russell Wilson to be my top 3 fantasy performers. While Wilson showed again why he is the front-runner for MVP, Newton and Jones had far less impressive weeks. For Newton, I was banking on some rushing scores to boost his fantasy point total, but the Raiders had something else in mind.
Though the Patriots got the win, Newton was fantasy QB #28 passing for 162 yards with a score and interception, good for 11.18 points. Jones was even worse against a banged-up 49ers defense. He ended the week as fantasy QB #32 with a total of 8.06 points. Wilson was my bright spot as he was fantasy QB #2 in Week 3 with 36.80 points off a 300+ yard performance and five TD passes.
Running Backs
My prediction was correct that there were going to be better fantasy performers than James Robinson, though it was only by a point. The RB’s I tabbed for a good Week 3 were Alvin Kamara, Aaron Jones, and Ezekiel Elliott. These picks were more surefire bets in my opinion. Kamara, unsurprisingly, ended as the #1 fantasy back in Week 3 with 44.70 points, thanks to his receiving stat line of 13/139/2. Elliott and Jones both had good fantasy weeks, but not enough to warrant the top spots.
Elliott ended at RB #13 with 17.80 points while Jones ended at #15 with 16.60 points respectively. This was the first instance of a boom player out of the blue as Rex Burkhead was #2 with 34.80 points thanks to three scores. If you had him in one of your DraftKings or FanDuel, there’s a good chance you won some money.
Wide Receiver
We’ll jump in quickly with this one, I had Keenan Allen, Calvin Ridley, Darius Slayton, John Brown, Will Fuller, and DeAndre Hopkins. For all intents and purposes, four of the six receivers I picked had 15+ point weeks, which is a good performance. But I’m here to try and predict the top six guys, so those stats don’t matter. Allen had his first top-three performance of the year coming in at #3 with 30.20 points. Hopkins was the next best at #9 with 23.70 points. After that, it was a slight drop off.
Ridley ended the week at #25 with 16.70 points and Fuller ended at #30 with 15.40 points. The two big swing and misses were Slayton who finished #68 with 6.30 points and Brown who finished with a whopping 0.00 points. A little off on that one. Justin Jefferson had the first big week of his career finishing at #2 with a stat line of 7/175/1, good for 30.50 points.
Tight Ends
It was a relatively slow week for the TE position. The men I tabbed were Travis Kelce, Austin Hooper, and Jordan Reed. Kelce was the best out of the bunch ending the week at #5 with 14.70 points. Hooper got injured during the game and ended the week at #32 with 5.50 points and Reed was just placed on the IR after a 4.20 point week, good for #40. TE is going to be a tricky position at times to pick this year.
Jimmy Graham looked like the Jimmy Graham of his New Orleans days ending the week at #1 with a stat line of 6/60/2 good for 24.00 points. You’re a happy camper if you started him in a money league.
DEF/ST’s
To be honest, I thought I was going to go 3 for 3 on my picks this week. I missed it by one though. I picked Indianapolis, Tampa Bay, and Atlanta. If you were lucky enough to snatch up Indy or Tampa, you’re a happy camper. The Colts finished with a whopping 26 points, good for the #1 spot. Tampa was #2 with 16 points. So if there is any indication here, just pick the defense who is playing the Jets or if their starting QB is hurt like the Broncos.
As for the Falcons, I was hopeful. It looked so great going into the half. And then, Nick Foles happened. Actually, Mitch Trubisky happened which caused Nick Foles to happen. Trubisky finally forced Bears Head Coach Matt Nagy to bench him for the former Super Bowl MVP. Then the Falcons did something they’ve seem to make a habit and blew a double-digit second-half lead.
Kickers
I guess I shouldn’t praise a kicker’s accuracy because he’ll then go out and miss a PAT and a FG. Sorry to everyone who bet the over in the Kansas City game. Yeah, I’m talking to you Butker! As you may guess, Harrison Butker was one of my picks this week as well as Mason Crosby and Justin Tucker. Even if Butker had made those kicks, he still would have been outside the top 10. Butker ended at #27 with 4 points, Tuckers ended at #17 with 8 points, and my man Crosby got a top 3 finish at #2 with 15 points.
Another crazy boom for fantasy owners was Stephen Gostkowski who made 6/6 FG’s with three coming from 50+ yards. Have a day Gostkowski.
To Conclude
Well, I think I got better this week. My finger is moving closer to the pulse in some respects and I think that in the coming weeks we are going to see a spike in my completion rate/batting average. For the week, I was 6 for 21, good for a .285 batting line and a horrible completion percentage. Through 3 weeks, I’m at 16 for 60, good for a season clip of .233 average. I’m trending up!
