It was confirmed via Will Howard‘s Instagram story that he was visiting the USC Trojans on December 15th. He was one of several visitors on an official visit this weekend which included other transfer candidates and high school student-athletes.
Howard is the first QB prospect that USC head coach Lincoln Riley visited, flying to Kansas to visit Howard after he entered the portal earlier in December. He is listed as the #19 best available transfer player by The Athletic and is the 4th quarterback on the list. Cameron Ward, Maalik Murphy, and Former UCLA Bruin quarterback, Dante Moore are ranked ahead of Howard. But Riley’s high opinion of him means a lot. He knows a thing or two about quarterback prospects for his offense.

The 6-foot-5, 242-pound senior threw for 6,702 total yards and 67 touchdowns during his career. Even at that size, he is still a dual threat. Howard also rushed for 921 yards and 19 touchdowns over the last three seasons. The combination of size and mobility is earning him comparisons to Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.
Is Will Howard The Future Or USC Football?
The Trojans have Miller Moss and Malachi Nelson on the roster. Both are first-time starters and heading into the formidable Big Ten next season, the Trojans will certainly want to do their best to ensure competitiveness.
The question now for USC is “Is this the end of their search to replace Caleb Williams or just the beginning?”
Cameron Ward is the consensus prize jewel of the transfer portal, but will his cost be worth the squeeze? Could Lincoln Riley get enough out of Will Howard to elevate USC to a potential College Football Playoff bid in 2024?
Will Howard has plenty of other suitors, including Texas A&M and Miami amongst others, but USC and Lincoln Riley provide the best path to the NFL.
