USC Transfer Portal: Trojans Land Elite Defender From UCLA

UCLA transfer defensive back Kamari Ramsey has committed to the USC Trojans. Ramsey met with USC, Washington, and Ohio State in official capacities last week. On Thursday, Ramsey decided to stay in LA and committed to USC.

The USC transfer portal also landed Ramsey’s Bruin teammate DB John Humphrey.

While Ramsey said “It was actually a really tough decision for me. All the schools I was considering had great things to offer me,” USC was thought to be the frontrunner as UCLA defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn made the move to USC earlier this month.

“That was a big plus for sure,” Ramsey said. “I’m close with coach Lynn and I know what he can do. I know his defense already so it’s a great fit for me.”

In his first year under Lynn, Ramsey moved into the starting position and improved significantly. He compiled 40 tackles, 4 pass breakups, 2.5 tackles for loss, and an interception in 11 games. He allowed an average passer rating of just 46.1.

Ramsey still has three years before draft eligibility kicks in. The USC defense has a long way to go to be a dominant force, but adding Ramsey is a big step in the right direction. The 6’1″ 205lbs Chatsworth, CA native is an all-around safety that is sound in multiple phases of the game.

He was PFF’s 3rd top-rated safety in his redshirt freshman year and was The Athletic’s 11th-best available transfer portal player.
