D’Anton Lynn Gets Contract Extension Amidst Penn State’s Attempt To Hire Him Away

USC Trojans fans can breathe a big sigh of relief. After rumors were swirling, and we even put out a report this morning, that Penn State was honing in on D’Anton Lynn in an attempt to make him their next DC.

Penn State is probably the only school that would be able to lure Lynn away for a lateral move due to the fact that they are his Alma Mater. Really, no other school would make sense for Lynn to leave SC for a lateral move.

This is what had fans nervous.

But, give credit to Lincoln Riley and AD Jen Cohen as it appears that they have locked up Lynn for the foreseeable future.

D’Anton Lynn Agrees To Contract Extension With USC Trojans

According to Pete Thamel of ESPN, and many other sources have confirmed, D’Anton Lynn has agreed to a contract extension to remain the Defensive Coordinator with the USC Trojans.

This is massive for USC and a piece that needed to remain intact to keep the trajectory of the program in a positive direction.

In his first season with the Trojans, Lynn improved the USC defense by 10 points per game, allowing 24.1 ppg after the Trojans allowed 34.4 in 2023. This was also with their best defensive lineman, Bear Alexander, essentially quitting on the team after the 3rd game of the season.

With a full recruiting class, and some talented transfers so far in the portal, this defense led by Lynn is only going to continue to get better.

One of the biggest issues for the Trojans defense in 2024 was the pass rush. They only accumulated 21 total sacks.

This will be a big point of emphasis for Lynn and his staff, and you can already see that some of the new players coming in, through the 2025 recruiting class and the transfer portal, are going to aid in this effort.
