CFP Contender In Heavy Pursuit Of USC Trojans DC D’Anton Lynn

Just yesterday, I released my latest intel on the USC Trojans LB Coach, but now there is some concerning news regarding the Trojans DC, D’Anton Lynn.

Just last week, Penn State DC Tom Allen left the Nittany Lions for the Clemson DC job. Immediately, Lynn’s name popped up, and not just because he is one of the top coordinators in the nation, but he is also a Penn State Alumni.

It would be a lateral move for Lynn, and both programs are considered Blue Bloods (depending on who you talk to regarding Penn State), but there is something special about coaching for your alma mater. That is what has USC fans worried.

According to the Locked On Nittany Lions Podcast, Penn State has honed in on Lynn as one of their top candidates. According to flight records, there was a contingency of Penn State coaches and staff that flew to Los Angeles to meet with Lynn.

Head Coach James Franklin was also at Mater Dei this morning, along with multiple USC Coaches. Was this a kill-two-birds-with-one-stone situation? Or is it just an addition to the trip after being in town meeting with Lynn?

Will D’Anton Lynn Leave The USC Trojans For Penn State?

As of this writing, we do not know how the conversation went and if D’Anton Lynn will ultimately take the job.

This is my opinion, but I do not believe he will. While coaching for your alma mater is special, it would not really advance Lynn’s career. Ultimately, I do believe that he sees himself back in the NFL as a DC there and then eventually as a head coach.

Moving laterally to Penn State would not hurt this, necessarily, but it wouldn’t make a ton of sense to move across the country for just a season or two.

He has already proven what a special coach he is in his one year at UCLA and now his first year at USC. He can finish the turnaround in LA and then head to the NFL from here if that is what he is building toward.

Lincoln Riley will be hiring his LB coach in the coming weeks, if not days. You have to think that Lynn was heavily involved in this search and interview process.

A lot is riding on his decision to stay or leave the USC Trojans.
