One of the great traditions of USC Trojans Football is who leads the team out of the tunnel onto the crisp green grass of the LA Memorial Coliseum.
Running Back great Ronald Jones led the team out during their last home game against the Wisconsin Badgers. There are rumors that Trojans legend, Reggie Bush, will lead the team out at some point this season, although that is a bit murky now that he has sued the University.
This week’s tunnel captain was just announced, and it is an absolutely perfect match.
Former USC football QB and current undefeated QB of the Minnesota Vikings, Sam Darnold, will lead the team out against the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Sam Darnold Leading The USC Trojans Is Fate
Sam Darnold has been the talk of the NFL after his career resurgence and leading the Minnesota Vikings to a perfect 5-0 record. He has over 1,100 yards passing through five games and is second in passing TDs with 11.
Darnold was a legend at USC, and undoubtedly, his most memorable game came against Penn State in the Rose Bowl.
The 2016 USC Football team began the season 1-3, including a 52-6 blowout loss in the season opener at the hands of the Alabama Crimson Tide. Max Browne was the starting QB to begin the year, but after the poor start, Head Coach Clay Helton handed the keys over to Freshman Sam Darnold.

The 2017 Rose Bowl game was the stuff of legends, and in my opinion, one of the greatest College Football games of our generation. It was a back-and-forth affair that came down to the final drive.
Darnold’s stat line of 453 yards and 5 touchdowns helped lead the Trojans to a 52-49 Rose Bowl victory.
If there was anyone to lead the USC Trojans out against Penn State this weekend and get the season back on track, it is Sam Darnold.
See you all at the Coli this Saturday.
