USC Trojans Secure NEW QB Via Transfer Portal

Former Utah quarterback Sam Huard has announced his intention to transfer to the USC Trojans. This marks his fourth collegiate destination, having previously played for Washington (2021-22) and Cal Poly (2023).

Huard, who did not see any game action for the Utes this past season due to an undisclosed injury, will have two years of eligibility remaining at USC.

Huard is the nephew of USC quarterbacks coach Luke Huard.

Prior to his time at Utah, Huard enjoyed a productive season with Cal Poly in 2023, starting nine games and accumulating 2,247 passing yards with 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Before transferring to Cal Poly, Huard appeared in five games during his two seasons at the University of Washington.

USC’s presumed starter at quarterback is Jayden Maiava, who started the final four games for the Trojans in 2024. Huard’s addition will create competition for the starting position. This is assuming Maiava stays with USC. Last week, there were rumors that the sophomore was entering the transfer portal.

Huard is the ninth transfer addition for the USC Trojans this cycle, joining a group that includes defensive tackle Keeshawn Silver (Kentucky), defensive tackle Jamaal Jarrett (Georgia), running back Eli Sanders (New Mexico), defensive back DJ Harvey (San Jose State), punter Sam Johnson (Valparaiso), kicker Caden Chittenden (UNLV), running back Waymond Jordan (Hutchison) and offensive lineman DJ Wingfield (Purdue).
