USC Trojans senior offensive analyst and quarterbacks coach, Kliff Kingsbury will interview with the Chicago Bears for their open offensive coordinator position. He is among several candidates but he is the only one with what might be a very important relationship.
Of course, the natural connection to make is that the Bears are attempting to make their franchise more appealing to, Kingsbury’s USC quarterback, Caleb Williams. Williams and his team have put the league on notice that he won’t play for just any NFL team and Chicago has not had the recent or long-term success that a future #1 overall pick would find appealing. Bringing in a familiar face certainly sweetens the deal for Williams.
USC Trojans Could Reunite In Chicago
Kingsbury gets credit for developing Patrick Mahomes, and Kingsbury has said there are ‘eerily uncanny similarities’ between Mahomes and Williams.
As far as Williams’ opinion of Kingsbury he has said, “He’s a great coach to have in the QB room because he’s seen it done on the highest level. He’s seen it done on our level, how many different players that you see now that whether they went first pick, that won a Heisman… Just a good relationship coach, and he gives you the real and we’ll talk and have good conversations, whether it’s [about] now or down the line a couple years from now the way things work out. He’s been great. It’s awesome to have him.”
The Bears have nothing but options with the first and ninth overall picks as well as with Justin Fields under contract for 2024, but if they decide to bring Williams in with the first pick, having Kingsbury in their back pocket will only benefit them and Williams.
