Fantasy Football Updates: Week 9 Injuries
Evan Engram, TE – Jacksonville Jaguars
- Left the game against the Raiders after his first catch of the day
- Tried to return later in the game but seemed like the injury was preventing him from being effective
- Considered day-to-day right now, but it’s a situation to monitor all week
- Tried to return later in the game but seemed like the injury was preventing him from being effective
- Head coach Doug Pederson did say that Engram is in line to play in the Week 10 game against the Kansas City Chiefs
- His effectiveness could be in question, but as mentioned it’s a situation to watch as he is one of the more surprising talents in fantasy football this season
- In case Engram can’t play or would be limited, Dan Arnold would be the next man up at the tight end position
- While he’s had a total of seven targets this season, he could be a great streaming option this week in case Engram is out in Week 10
- Just in case someone has the same idea to snag Arnold off the waiver wire, there are some other great options as well
- Guys like Greg Dulcich, Cole Kmet, Noah Fant, and Daniel Bellinger
Aaron Jones, RB – Green Bay Packers
- Jones left the second half of the game against the Lions with an ankle injury
- He wanted to return to the game but was advised against it in case of aggravating it further
- Evaluations and tests were performed on Monday and it looks like he avoided any serious injuries
- With that news, it’s not guaranteed that he’ll miss the Week 11 game against the Cowboys or that he’ll be able to play
- The Packers have a great handcuff option on AJ Dillon in case Jones can’t suit up against Dallas
- Since most fantasy managers have probably drafted Dillon in their fantasy leagues, you might need to look elsewhere to nab a streaming option this week
- You can snag guys like Chase Edmonds, Jeff Wilson Jr., Kenyan Drake, and Latavius Murray
Romeo Doubs, WR – Green Bay Packers
- Injured his ankle on the very first play of the game and did not return against the Lions
- He’s going to miss a handful of weeks with a high-ankle sprain
- One of the promising rookies from this most recent draft class and one of the beacons in this passing offense
- Aaron Rodgers is going to have to deal without having one of his go-to targets now for a few weeks
- Allen Lazard is healthy and should give Rodgers a solid option in the passing game, along with fellow rookie Christian Watson being able to return to action after clearing concussion protocols
- If you’re in a deep league, you can also look at another rookie Samori Toure
- If you were relying on Doubs on your fantasy roster, you might need to look elsewhere for production
- See if you can grab any of the following guys: Michael Gallup, Mecole Hardman, Wan’Dale Robinson, and Donovan Peoples-Jones
Josh Allen, QB – Buffalo Bills
- Looks to have suffered an injury in the final quarter of the game against the New York Jets
- It’s being reported as a sprained UCL injury which is something he dealt with during the 2018 season
- During that 2018 season, Allen ended up shutting things down for a month because of the injury
- The hope is that he of course didn’t sustain serious injury and will be good to play this week
- It’s looking like this isn’t that bad and at worst he could miss a week or two
- Case Keenum will take over as the starter, should Allen not be able to play this week
- Not a bad option, but you might be better off grabbing someone from another offense
- You can possibly get guys like Justin Fields, Daniel Jones, and Marcus Mariota off waiver wires.
P.J. Walker, QB – Carolina Panthers
- Walker didn’t sustain an injury but was very ineffective against the Bengals over the weekend
- He wasn’t alone, to be honest, as they lost the game 42 to 21
- Bengals are putting it together nicely too as it was the Joe Mixon show in Week 9, as he totaled 211 total yards and scored five total touchdowns.
- He wasn’t alone, to be honest, as they lost the game 42 to 21
- Walker had a grand total of 10 passing attempts for nine passing yards in the first half, along with two interceptions
- Baker Mayfield came into the game at the start of the second half and led three touchdown-scoring drives out of four offensive drives total.
- Head coach Steve Wilks could look to turn things back over to Mayfield for a few weeks as he showed more compared to Walker in the same game
Week 10 Waiver Wire Picks
Waiver Wire Quarterbacks
Justin Fields, Chicago Bears vs. DET (ESPN Roster Percentage – 47.4%)
- Fields is coming off one of his better games since becoming a pro
- Set the single-game rushing yard record (regular season) for quarterbacks with 178
- Broke Michael Vick’s record of 173 rushing yards and is now behind Colin Kaepernick for all-time (181)
- Set the single-game rushing yard record (regular season) for quarterbacks with 178
- He’s now had at least 24 fantasy points in his last three games and is becoming a solid streaming option during these BYE weeks
- Biggest thing is he’s tucking that ball and running the ball more, which is great for quarterbacks in fantasy football
- Coming next for Fields is a game against the divisional rival Detroit Lions
- The Lions are surrendering the sixth most rushing yards in the NFL
Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders vs. IND (ESPN Roster Percentage – 63%)
- Carr just went for 18 points and is geared up to play the Colts, Broncos, and Seahawks over their next three games
- He has yet to have less than 25 attempts in any of his games this season
- Volume plus bad defenses with a team that is likely going to be battling in a lot of shootouts equals the perfect backup and a solid starting option
Waiver Wire Running Backs
Jeff Wilson Jr., Miami Dolphins vs. CLE (ESPN Roster Percentage – 44.6%)
- Reuniting with Mike McDaniel has been great for Wilson Jr. so far
- Wilson Jr. pretty much split the touches with starter Raheem Mostert, 12-11
- Both scored a touchdown as well in their game against the Bears
- With San Francisco acquiring Christian McCaffrey, most fantasy managers thought Wilson Jr’s fantasy stock was at an all-time low
- This trade shot it back up and he’s a great FLEX option now as a member of the Miami Dolphins
- Playing the Cleveland Browns this week, expect Wilson Jr. to be involved in the offense more and more as he gets more comfortable in the offense
- Also, he’s a very valuable handcuff in case Mostert suffers an injury, which history suggests might happen
Tyler Allgeier, Atlanta Falcons vs. CAR (ESPN Roster Percentage – 65%)
- He hasn’t seen less than 10 touches since Week 4 and even with Patterson back, he was still able to produce scoring 12.8 points this week
- This tells me that the Falcons are in a Breece Hall – Michael Carter situation. Allgeier is going to be their change-of-pace guy
- He’ll have limited opportunities but I still think that as long as he can make the most of those touches and he’ll remain a viable FLEX candidate
Waiver Wire Wide Receivers
Mecole Hardman, Kansas City Chiefs vs. JAX (ESPN Roster Percentage – 36.1%)
- Over the last four weeks, Hardman is ranked as the ninth-best fantasy wide receiver in PPR leagues
- He’s scored six total touchdowns over the last four weeks and has, overall, been more featured in the offense
- Besides Travis Kelce, this offense lacks a dominant pass catcher
- Slowly though, it’s looking like Hardman has become a reliable option for fantasy football lineups
- Heading into Week 10, the Jaguars may not present the biggest threat to the Chiefs
- Also, you have to think that the Chiefs are going to do anything they can to jumpstart the offense after looking sluggish against the Tennessee Titans last week
Terrace Marshall Jr., Carolina Panthers vs. ATL (ESPN Roster Percentage – 8.4%)
- He was our pick as a preseason sleeper and now he is finally living up to the hype
- He’s seen 6 or more targets over the last two games and has averaged 17 or more yards
- Plus he is playing Atlanta, Baltimore and Denver over the next three weeks
Waiver Wire Tight Ends
Noah Fant, Seattle Seahawks vs. TB (ESPN Roster Percentage – 31.8%)
- It took nine weeks, but Fant is starting to finally pay off as a trade acquisition from the Denver Broncos in the Russell Wilson trade
- He went over 90 receiving yards and had five receptions off of six targets against Arizona
- It’s surprising he hasn’t been involved more in this offense with his talent, but better late than never
- Based on his history with the Seahawks so far, it’s a risky pick-up but he could be worth a stash on you bench if this wasn’t a one-week-wonder type of performance
David Njoku, Cleveland Browns vs. MIA (ESPN Roster Percentage – 62.5%)
- This makes sense given his injury and the bye week but that also means this is the time to get him back on your roster
- Deshaun Watson loves throwing to tight ends and he’s back next week
- Not to mention that with Brissett, he’s posted 7 or more points in 5 straight weeks
Waiver Wire Defenses/Special Teams
Bears, Chicago Bears vs. DET (ESPN Roster Percentage – 3%)
- This Bears defense has the potential to be top-5 in the league next season, but in the interim they are a worthy streaming candidate
- The Lions benefitted from the Packers gifting them three red zone turnovers, but surprisingly the Bears are not susceptible to doing that
- Look for a low-scoring game and the Bears to force a turnover or two to get some good fantasy points for you this week
D/ST – Titans vs. DEN (ESPN Roster Percentage -15.9%)
- The Titans were able to score a respectable 6 points against the Chiefs
- Now they’re about to play a Denver offense that has so far only looked good against the Jaguars
- They are a good streaming option with minimal risk – even though they may not blow you away, they’re not going to blow up your matchup either
Waiver Wire Kickers
Robbie Gould, San Francisco 49ers vs. LAC (ESPN Roster Percentage – 10.4%)
- This game might be close than people think and there’s going to be a good amount of field goals in it
- Coming off the BYE week, the 49ers may underestimate the Chargers and find themselves struggling to get into the red zone for potential touchdowns
- Gould should have a good shot at scoring a good amount of fantasy points this week
K – Cairo Santos, Chicago Bears vs. DET (ESPN Roster Percentage – 39%)
- This Bears offense is starting to finally hit its stride and they’re playing the Lions and Falcons over their next two games which will both probably be shootouts
